VMCV is pleased to renew its partnership with the Swiss Museum of Games on the occasion of its new temporary exhibition, “Playing Cards : From the Early Days to Trading Cards”, running from 21 August 2026 to 4 July 2027.
Our collaboration with the Swiss Museum of Games began in 2025 with the “Planet Games” exhibition. Located in the Château de La Tour-de-Peilz, the Swiss Museum of Games is the only museum in Switzerland dedicated to the cultural history of games.
From Tarot to Pokémon
This new interactive exhibition traces more than six centuries of playing card history. Playing cards first appeared in Europe in the 1360s and have evolved over the centuries alongside changing practices, technological innovations and cultures. By the end of the 20th century, collectible card games (“Trading Card Games”) marked a new turning point, combining gameplay and collecting.
Featuring several thousand cards, the exhibition draws on the collections of the Swiss Museum of Games and an exceptional collaboration with the French Museum of Playing Cards in Issy-les-Moulineaux. Significant loans from European heritage institutions and private collections bring together a unique collection spanning more than six centuries of history. The exhibition also explores the close ties between playing cards and video games, demonstrating their enduring influence on our cultural practices.
Through this partnership, VMCV continues its commitment to culture and to the organisations that contribute to the vitality and appeal of the Riviera.
